The typewriter - Ancestor Of The Qwerty Keyboard

The QWERTY keyboard was originally designed for typewriters so that the letter arms would not get tangled in the quick press of two buttons. The letters of the keyboard were placed in such manner so as to ensure that frequently used letters would be spaced further away from each other.

Also, common letters such as, A, S and E were positioned so that it would give easy access to the third and fourth finger of the left hand for easier typing.
