Why Do We Dye Heating Oil?

Some fuels are colored to allow authorities to detect fraud inconsistent with the their intended use. Note that in case of fraud with heating oil, the motorist is liable for a heavy fine and in some countries, the fine is based on the vehicles cumulated mileage.
