October 1867 in Alaska - the Shortest Month in History

The state of Alaska, which boasts the largest American reserve of hydrocarbons, was bought by the US from Russia in October of 1867 for 7.2 million dollars. The month of October that year only lasted three weeks, due to the switch from the Russian Julian calendar to the American Gregorian calendar (passing from October 7 - 18).
