Some US farmers have taken vegetable growing seriously and have world records to prove it. You won't find these in your local supermarket: Grown in Rhode Island, the world's largest pumpkin was shown at the Topsfield Fair of Massachusetts in 2007, weighing 1689 lbs.
John Evans, a mechanical designer who lives 40 miles north of Anchorage in Palmer, Alaska, holds seven world records for giant vegetables. One of them is the green cabbage that weighed over 76 lb, making it a world record in 1998. It all started with his first major competition with a broccoli that weighed over 35 lb, making it a world record. - Submitted by Linda Cloutier
